The initial settlers of the area that would become Longwood came around early 1870s. John Neil Searcy who came in March of 1873, and Edward Warren Henck who came in November. They began developing a small community in this area.
It was Henck who decided on the name ‘Longwood’ for the area. He also became the first mayor of Longwood in 1885. Longwood was incorporated as a city in 1923.
In the early 1970′ with the development of Sweetwater Oaks, Longwood became known as the upscale Orlando suburb with its multi-million dollar homes on several-acre lots.
Longwood is a suburban city in Seminole County, Florida, located just 10 miles north of Orlando and just a short drive from major attractions such as Disney World, MGM/Hollywood Studios, Universal Studios , Sea World and 85 miles NE of Tampa, Florida.
